Kathleen and Conor Tie the Knot at Maryland Wedding Venue – Dulany’s Overlook
Valley Bride shares this real Maryland spring wedding held at the scenic Dulany’s Overlook last spring! When it came to finding a Maryland wedding venue, Kathleen and Conor felt that Dulany’s Overlook blended their two personalities perfectly…
As told by the bride:
We met while setting up inflatables for a kids’ play room at a local volunteer event – an introduction which my sister (MOH) takes full credit for. We started talking and realized we had a lot of similar hobbies and interests. We immediately bonded over our mutual love of athletic pursuits, participation in Athletes Serving Athletes (a local non-profit), and love and appreciation for quality time with our families. His casual confidence and good looks immediately caught my attention. Seeing how great he was with the kids at the event further validated how special he was. No surprise that he is now the “Funcle” to our 7 nieces and nephews.
A day or so later he found me online through mutual friends and we started chatting. After a few weeks of failed 1st date attempts (I would clarify that it was more like 2 months), I was about to write this guy off. Around Halloween, we reconnected at a 5K fundraising event for ASA where I was Little Red Riding Hood and Conor was Richard Simmons. He insists that I couldn’t deny a man in short-shorts with long legs so I agreed to a final 1st date attempt which we would both to this day say sealed the deal.
At the time he was living in Alexandria while I was living in Baltimore. Our relationship grew over the next 2 years during bike rides, lazy nights on the couch, walks in the neighborhood with my dog Buddy, triathlons, weekends away with friends, epic adventures, holidays, and good whiskey. After 2 years, I finally lured him back up here to Baltimore.
One weekend the fall, Conor had planned a camping weekend away in western Maryland to bike portions of the GAP Trail (an adventure which I missed out on earlier in the year due to an injury). I suspected that this might be THE weekend, but he threw me off several times. We even stopped at a gorgeous overlook and discussed “what-if-we-got-married” plans, but no proposal! Towards the last 5 miles of the ride, we pulled over on this beautiful old railroad bridge to take a picture and that was there that he popped the question. He says that I promptly interrupted his well-prepared speech and just yelled YES!! I still haven’t heard the supposed speech to this day!!
We started making plans immediately, and scheduled our wedding for the following May. We were really happy when we found Dulany’s Overlook. We felt like it really blended our two personalities perfectly: my “little-bit-fancy” and his “outdoorsy down-to-earthy”-ness.
All of our vendors were so wonderful, they made every element so special and I highly recommend all of them. From our day-of coordinator, caterers and photographer who guided me through so many elements of the day-of activities, to our music vendors who knocked it out of the park. Our florist made beautiful arrangements that perfectly complimented the overall aesthetic of the day. JKW Beauty was a local hair and make-up team that I found online and couldn’t have been happier with their team. They came to the venue and were helpful to determine timeline and team needed to make preparations go off without a hitch.
