Maryland Spring Wedding -Lynette and Doug’s “Home Grown” Dream Day

Choosing to hold your wedding at your own home brings as much meaning and comfort as it does stress… but one couple pulled it off so perfectly, we couldn’t help but show it off! Check out this impressive Maryland Spring Wedding held at the private home of the couple this past spring…

The Love Story… as told by the bride:

Doug and I are both Maryland transplants from out of state. We were both finding it pretty difficult to meet people at the regular places, bars or through friends. Doug had been on match.com for some time when I decided to give the free trial a try in 2014 (pre-bumble days). Shortly after joining the dating site, Doug sent me the initial message that I still have saved to this day.

We enjoyed e-mailing each other back and forth for a few weeks before we exchanged numbers and decided to meet for our first date. We met for sushi at Chiyo Sushi in Mt. Washington. If you haven’t had the pleasure, we highly recommend!

We had such a great date with constant communication. From the very first date it was obvious how thoughtful Doug was. I was unsure why he carried a rolled up paper bag out of the restaurant with him as he walked me to my car. After he gave me a hug he handed me the paper bag and said, “I saw on your profile that you liked cheese, so I picked you up some gourmet cheeses.”

We joke today that if the date didn’t go so well he would have kept the cheese. We had our second date within the same week which was as much fun as the first. It became obvious as we spent more time together that I would be able to end my match.com membership before the end of the free trial period.

After dating for a fantastic year we decided to move in together in down town Baltimore. We spent two years living in Baltimore city when we began to realize we wanted a home of our own with some land of our own. As we began serious home shopping it became obvious we were in this for the long haul.

We wanted to find our first home with someone we couldn’t see ourselves living without. Doug purchased my dream engagement ring after I had dropped some not-so-subtle hints to my co-workers at J. Brown Jewelers. They did an amazing job keeping the purchase under wraps. I had found a newly listed home online that we both loved and made an appointment to view the listing the day before Thanksgiving as I was unaware that Doug had the ring in his possession.

The day before our appointment Doug asked me to go for date night at Chiyo Sushi. We have date nights there periodically so I didn’t think much of another date night at the place we first met. Little did I know that moments before he picked me up from work for that date night he had just asked my parents for their permission to marry me. Shortly after ordering our sushi Doug dropped to one knee and proposed. We were both so excited after I said “yes!” that little sushi was eaten.

The next day was our appointment to view the home we had admired so much online. After walking around the beautiful and spacious property we knew we had found our dream home.

As we stood facing our back yard that backs up to farm land we conversed about how amazing it would be to have our wedding at our home. Just a couple days after viewing the property our offer was accepted. We were thrilled to move into our northern Baltimore county home and begin the next exciting chapter of our lives. Engaged and first time home owners within the same week!

We decided to give our wedding a garden theme, which came naturally as we both enjoy growing and eating fruit and vegetables from our garden while surrounded by the beautiful farm land Maryland has to offer. We set the tone to our garden themed wedding with hand made ‘Save The Date’ seed packets filled with seeds from our own vegetables.

With the helping hands of family and friends we converted our old back yard gardening shed into a shabby-chic functioning bar full of potted flowers and greenery.
